Occasionally, it may be necessary to apply a coupon to a member's subscription. They may be struggling to apply a promo code, or you may have opted as a business owner to limit access to a coupon by refraining from using promo codes for your coupon.

To apply a coupon to a subscription in Stripe, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Overview tab on a customer account page.

  2. Navigate to the "Subscriptions" header of the page. It should be the first section listed.

  3. Select the "3 dot" button on the right side of the subscription that you wish to edit.

  4. Select "Update subscription."

  5. On the following screen navigate to the Pricing section and click "Add coupon."

  6. On the popup window that follows, select the desired coupon from the drop-down menu. The menu may take a few seconds to load. Searching is possible by clicking into the box and typing as shown. Coupons will need to be created in Stripe prior to application to a customer's account.

  7. Click Submit.

  8. Finally, at the bottom of the screen, click "Update subscription." If you don't click "Update subscription," no changes will be made.

  9. The coupon is now attached to the subscription.

To remove a coupon from a subscription, follow the steps as before to update the subscription, but select the three dots next to the coupon on the Update a subscription page, then Remove, as shown below:

Note: if the customer cancels their subscription, the coupon will need to be reattached. This process attaches a coupon to a subscription only. If you desire to attach a coupon to a customer's Stripe account in perpetuity, please visit the following article: Applying a Coupon to an Account

If at any point in this guide, you seem to be unable to make the necessary changes in Stripe, you may need adjustments to your Stripe role. Please see the article Stripe Roles for more information.
