All customer profiles will default to being taxable, but can be changed to tax-exempt in Stripe. This article defines the tax statuses available and walks you through how to change a customer's tax status in Stripe.

Tax status definitions:

  • Taxable - tax is applied if the jurisdiction where payments are being made and product/services purchased are both taxable

  • Exempt - tax is not applied, even if the jurisdiction where payments are being made and products/services purchased are both taxable

  • Reverse - the car wash is responsible for paying taxes if the jurisdiction where payments are being made and product/services purchased are both taxable

To modify the tax status for an account in Stripe, use the following steps:

  1. Search for and access the user's account by entering the user's name or email address into the search box and selecting the appropriate customer account.
Note: for Fleet accounts, search the fleet admin's email address

  2. Click the triple-dot near the upper right of the account screen.

  3. Click "Edit information" from the drop-down menu.

  4. Click "Billing information" to expand the tab and scroll down to the "Tax status" section. Click to choose the appropriate taxation method.

  5. Click "Update customer" to save any changes when finished.
